Ebenezer Appiah

Ebenezer primarily competed in World Schools Debate at various levels, including local, state, national, and international competitions. Throughout his career he clinched the 2021 NSDA National Championship title, won the HUDL City Championship twice, and secured the top national ranking by the end of his senior year. He has made out round appearances at prestigious tournaments including the UT Longhorn Classic, Kandi King Round Robin, Blake Invitational, and Bluebonnet International. Currently, he competes at the collegiate level in British Parliament (BP) debate and has continued a long standing commitment to promoting equity in debate through Space City Camp, a free non-profit camp founded by him and his peers.

 

Yajaira Flores

Hello, I am an incoming freshman at Rhodes College and a recent graduate from Irma Rangel YWLS. I debated for all four years of my high school career in the World Schools division while dabbling in policy and extemp debate. I competed in the Dallas Urban Debate Alliance (DUDA), Texas Forensic Association and NSDA National circuit. Additionally, I am involved in volunteering at DUDA through judging, teaching workshops and summer camps. As this is my first year at TDC, I am very excited to share my knowledge and learn from everyone else at camp!

 

Nhung Huynh

Nhung Huynh is an incoming freshman at the University of Texas at Austin, she is set to pursue a degree in Economics while continuing her pursuit of competitive debate. Nhung has competed extensively in Extemporaneous and World Schools formats. Her skills shine through her role as President of Elsik’s debate team, where she guided her peers to success during the past season. Nhung's competitive track record speaks volumes about her dedication. Notable achievements include placing 5th at the TFA 2024 State tournament, reaching quarterfinals at UT 2023, and advancing to late out-rounds at the Worlds School (NSDA) Nationals. Furthermore, her proficiency in World Schools Debate has earned her a Top 15 ranking nationally. Beyond the competition room, Nhung is committed to sharing her expertise and empowering others. She is excited to work at the Texas Debate Collective for the summer of 2024!

 

Alicia Martinez

I'm an incoming freshman at Portland State University, and I've competed in Speech and Debate for all four years. I competed in Worlds for two years, being a member of Team Texas my senior year. Some of my achievements from Worlds include making it to octofinals at TFA State, breaking to elims at Stanford, The Berkeley Invitational, and The Isidore Newman Tournament. I also have experience in events such as Extemp breaking to elims at The Isidore Newman Tournament and attending the ETOC. I'm extremely excited to share my experience and help others grow!

 

Kelsey Mosely

Kelsey Mosely competed in speech and debate for 6 years but started competing in WSD during her sophomore year of high school at Alief Early College. Since then she has achieved much including winning first place at the 2023 Houston Urban Debate League City Championship and qualifying for the TFA state tournament. However, her most notable accomplishment is placing 3rd in speaker awards at the 2023 NSDA Nationals. Kelsey is eager and looking forward to teaching at camps this year.

 

Andy Stubbs

Andy Stubbs serves as the curriculum coordinator for the Houston Urban Debate League and the Harris County Department of Education's CASE Debates project. He assists in coaching numerous schools within the Houston Urban Debate League and consults for The Kinkaid School. Previously, he held the position of head coach at St. John's School. During his eight years coaching at NSDA Nationals in World Schools, his debaters clinched the 2021 NSDA National Championship, reached the semifinals in 2016, and secured four speaker awards. Andy's extensive experience includes roles as the director of curriculum and co-director of public forum at the Victory Briefs Institute, Director of World Schools at the Houston Urban Debate League Summer Institute, director of World Schools at the Texas Debate Collective, and teaching positions at Magnolia and UTNIF in prior summers. Additionally, he has contributed to the Houston chapter of the Rikers Debate Project, teaching debate to students incarcerated in the Harris County Jail.

 

Guadalupe Vazquez

I’m an incoming freshman at the University of Texas at Austin, where I will be studying Government. I have competed for three years at Irma Rangel YWLS in World Schools Debate and attended tournaments through the Dallas Urban Debate Alliance (DUDA), Texas Forensic Association State, and NSDA National Circuit. Last year, I attended TDC as a student in the World Schools Institute, but I’m excited to come back and have the opportunity to teach this time around!
